Canada Business Lounge At GDC 2013 Has Meeting Space And Networking Opportunities For Canadian Companies

Government of CanadaThe Canadian Trade Commissioner’s Office wants to make sure that Canadian game developers attending this year’s Game Developers Conference later this month in San Francisco are aware of the Canada Business Lounge service as well as the International Publisher Sessions. Be sure to take advantage of these opportunities and the assistance afforded to expanding the horizons of Canadian game development.

Did you know that all Canadian companies and organizations at GDC 2013 have access to exclusive meeting space in the Canada Business Lounge?  Steps away from the Moscone Center, the Canada Business Lounge at the InterContinental Hotel will have private and semi-private wifi-enabled meeting areas available in ½ hour time slots. The Lounge is open for use from 8am to 5pm, March 26-29, 2013.

Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service has put together an exclusive line-up of free seminars and networking opportunities with international publishers and industry experts for Canadian companies. Speakers include: Amazon, China Unicom, PocketGems, Tencent Wireless and many more.

For an opportunity to meet with confirmed publishers such as Big Fish, Capcom, China Mobile, Gamania Digital, Konami, MTV Networks, Sony Entertainment, Tencent and UserJoy and more, Canadian companies are invited to

  1. submit a profile that Trade Commissioners will share with their contacts in international markets
  2. meet a Trade Commissioner during GDC to learn more about opportunities in these markets

International Networking Opportunity Sessions – Tuesday, March 26 – The Trade Commissioner Service will also host a series International Networking Opportunity Sessions in the Canada Business Lounge (InterContinental Hotel, 888 Howard Street, 5th Floor). Over the next few weeks the TCS will confirm speakers from Greater China, Japan, Brazil, Seattle and Silicon Valley.The objective of these sessions are to provide Canadian game developers with opportunities to meet international publishers and/or partenrs and learn about doing business in their markets in a group setting.

Greater China: Market Opportunities & Distribution
– Featured speakers include C-level contacts from the Mobile Game Department of Tencent Holding (the #1 game company in China), WoStore Operation Center of China Unicom (the app store of China Unicom — one of the three wireless carriers in China), , YODO1 (a leading total-solution service provider to bring foreign mobile games to China), Lager Network Technologies (a leading MMORPG/social game development & licensing studio from Taiwan) and XPEC Entertainment (a leading console/web game developer and publisher from Taiwan with well–known titles).

Amazon representatives will share what they are doing in the mobile app space and give specifics about the value their tools and services bring to game developers.

Gowlings: Terms of Use, End User License Agreements & Patent Trolls
– Video gaming technology has evolved to allow for new games and business strategies for commercialization games unimaginable when Mario was rescuing the princess for the first time. Legal challenges and potential liabilities have accompanied this technological evolution. Developers who understand their legal rights and responsibilities will accordingly be those who are best positioned to successfully grow their businesses.

– The Brazil gaming association in Distrito Federal will present on the Brazil game industry, trends and market opportunities.

Pocket Gems: F2P Publishing
– Pocket Gems will share best practices for user acquisition and monetization in free-to-play games, as well as highlight the successes for the published titles.

Japan: Market Opportunities & Trends
– Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service in Tokyo, Japan will lead a discussion with local contacts on trends and opportunities for Canadian companies interested in working with GREE, Konami, CapCom, Sony, and Square Enix and Bandai-Namco.
