Argyle Digital Media Academy To Host Digital Media Youth Expo This Weekend

mini-orby [1]The North Vancouver School District’s Digital Media Academy [2] will be hosting the Digital Media Youth Expo 2013 [3] at Argyle Secondary School in North Vancouver this Saturday, March 2nd, from 12 to 4pm. The goal of the Digital Media Youth Expo is similar to that of the DMA which is to bring together high school students and their parents, teachers, post-secondary students, educators and members of industry to learn about the many educational and employment opportunities in digital media. Our key audience is high school students and their parents, however the event is open to anyone in the community.

The Expo will have over 14 different colleges and universities represented with booths focusing on the programs they offer in the areas of Film, Graphic Design, Visual Effects, Animation, Game Design, and Sound Design. There will be over 12 presentations, hands-on workshops, and demonstrations on topics ranging from Animation for Game Design, 3D Printing, CG Lighting and Shading, and Storyboard Art to name but a few. It will be a great opportunity to network and chat with industry professionals, instructors from colleges and universities, fellow educators, and college and high school students.

Registration is free via the Digital Media Academy’s web site [2] or Facebook page [4].

Editor’s recommendation: If you have any interest at all in the creative, screen-based industry sectors, or are the parent of a creative student, I urge you to attend the Digital Media Youth Expo and talk to the students, teachers and industry representatives. I’ve been witness to the projects created by Argyle Secondary’s Digital Media students and can attest to the success of the program. If you are a teacher at a school that does not offer a creative program such as this, I also recommend the Expo for you, so that you can see how creative-minded students can flourish in an educational program geared towards their natural talents and interests.
