Countdown to the World Education Games

Orby ReadsHosted annually by 3P Learning, the World Education Games allows students from around the world to compete with each other in an on-line competition.  Last year, 6 million students from over 200 countries and territories participated in the free competition.  3P Learning’s online resources – Mathletics, Spellodrome, and IntoScience – are the engines for the educational challenge that allows students to compete based on their age and skill level. This year, World Literacy Day will be held on March 5th, followed by World Math on March 6th and World Science day on March 7th.

Registration and practice begins today!  As part of the pre-Games celebration, 3P Learning Canada is hosting selected student Ambassadors from across Canada in Calgary from February 6-8, 2013. During the morning of February 7th, we will be visiting Morley Community School to promote the Games in Alberta’s First Nations Communities.  And, in the afternoon, we will be visiting Almadina Language Charter Academy. In the evening, we will be attending the official World Education Games Ambassador Dinner at Sunterra Keynote’s Community Table, where the group will be joined by motivational speakers Mark Ross and Laurie Skreslet. Mark, a member of Easter Seals Alberta, will be speaking on the importance of pursuing an education and overcoming adversity.  Laurie will be sharing his experiences as the first Canadian to summit Everest.  He will discuss how he created a plan, prepared for his journey and the excitement when he reached his goal.  On Friday, February 8th, the Ambassador tour will include a radio session, prizes and an official White Hat send-off by Tourism Calgary!

The Ambassador Tour is designed to work with students to promote the World Education Games’ overarching messages.  These messages include: working with UNICEF to break the cycle of poverty through education with their School-in-a-Box campaign, and for all students around the globe to join us in a fun, free and inclusive educational competition. For those unfamiliar with A School-in-a-Box, it is a learning kit which gives 80 children the opportunity to start school.  Help us reach our goal to help bring education to 100,000 children in desperate need.

And this year, to add to the fun, we will attempt to beat our very own Guinness World Record for the “Largest Online Math Competition”.  This record was set in 2010.  But it doesn’t end there!   We will also be working hard to set an additional two new Guinness World Records for the largest online spelling and science competitions – a feat for which we need at least 500,000 participants.

In summary, the World Education Games is a wonderful opportunity to connect all children across the globe in a safe learning environment, help less-fortunate children with educational materials, and to provide an opportunity to share the love of learning for literacy, math and science!

Mathletics is an online learning platform. The platform includes many teaching and learning resources with an abundance of adaptive content and real-time progress indicators for students, teachers and administrators. Differentiation tools to place students into ability groups, self-paced learning activities and problem solving exercises are just a few elements to the fundamental design of the Mathletics resource.

3P Learning is the founding company who created Mathletics, an online learning platform. Their global headquarters are in Australia, with operations in New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Canada and the United States.
