Teradici Introduces Improved User Experience With APEX Software Release 2.0

teradiciToday at VMworld 2012, Teradici, a Burnaby-based developer of the innovative PC-over-IP® (PCoIP®) protocol that enables a true PC experience for desktop virtualization, announced the APEX software release 2.0. This update introduces new, future proof functionalities bringing unbeatable user experience to new and existing VDI users, while maintaining compatibility with upcoming versions of VMware View®.

By enabling IT managers to configure display resolution to meet their actual needs, the APEX software release 2.0 also allows users to offload more displays with lower resolution. With enhanced performance when linked to next-generation PCoIP zero clients, end-to-end hardware encoding enables better frame rate on unconstrained networks while maintaining the CPU utilization reduction improvements seen on prior APEX software releases. These added features will be particularly important when VMware officially supports physical GPU in VMware View.

These new features are available through a simple firmware update to all existing APEX customers through the Teradici support site.

The Teradici APEX 2800 server offload card insures the success of VMware View® deployments by offloading PCoIP image encoding tasks, reducing server CPU utilization and now improving user experience with the implementation of end-to-end hardware in the server and PCoIP zero clients at the desk. This empowers IT managers to protect and ensure a consistent user experience, while enabling increased VDI consolidation ratios. The APEX 2800 is a performance enhancement to VMware View deployments that’s simple to install and setup.

“We are pleased to announce the continued evolution of the Teradici APEX 2800 feature set, and the addition of an improved user experience when installed in conjunction with the next- generation of PCoIP zero clients,” said Trent Punnett, vice president of marketing at Teradici. “With this release, we bring more flexibility to IT managers by allowing them to more effectively adapt to their environment.”

“The enhancements to Teradici’s APEX card will improve the user experience and save our government customers money by enabling them to reach higher VDI density on their current infrastructure,” said Will Jones, vice president of VMware and virtualization solutions at Carahsoft which serves as master government aggregator for VMware and government distributor for Teradici. “We’re excited to be able to offer these next-generation capabilities to our customers and resellers.”

The Teradici APEX 2800 solution will be demonstrated at Teradici booth #917 at VMworld 2012 taking place August 26-30 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
