rabble.ca Brings Its Best To The iPad

rabblerabble.ca is making history with a bit of the past. Its “Best of rabble.ca” is now available for free as a rich-media ebook for the iPad. This is the first time iBooks Author has been used for this kind of longform journalism in Canada. The iBook was created by online journalism students at the University of Western Ontario.

The students used Apple’s new iBooks Author software to create a tablet version that contains a multimedia selection of the most important stories the online alternative publication created in 2011. The iPad-based book contains video, photographs, podcasts, audio clips and 225 pages of articles that chronicle the year as seen by Canada’s leading alternative news site.

“This is the future of journalism,” said Matt Dusenbury, the leader of the Western student team. “It was great to work with a medium that will soon become commonplace.”

“rabble.ca has always been out past the leading edge of technology,” said Director of Emerging Media, Wayne MacPhail. “This is a great example of that.”

rabble.ca is Canada’s most popular source of independent news and views, and features original news, opinion, book reviews, podcasts and live and pre-recorded video exploring issues facing Canadians. rabble.ca marked 11 years of providing 100 per cent free news content to Canadians on April 18, 2012.
