Aboriginal Actor Leads New Transmedia TV Series for Syfy Channel

movie orby [1]From Syfy and Trion comes Defiance [2]™, a revolution in transmedia entertainment that unites a groundbreaking scripted television series and a massively multiplayer online shooter for the very first time. With the production team of “Battlestar Galactica” behind the camera, Vancouver Academy of Dramatic Arts [3] student Justin Rain’s character of Quentin McCawley is sure to meet the standards of Syfy’s expectations. This would only be possible with a talented actor that Justin rain has become.

From his humble beginnings in small town Saskatchewan, Justin Rain moved to Vancouver with the hopes and dreams of one day empowering other Aboriginal youth through the arts. Justin Rain has held his mantra throughout his career and now is shooting in Toronto as he lands a leading role on Global Networks new show “Defiance.”

“This would only be possible with a talented actor that Justin rain has become.” States Simon Longmore, Founder and Artistic Director of the Vancouver Academy of Dramatic Arts, (VADA.) “Justin has always been a driven and focussed actor, this series comes as no surprise to me, Justin was always breaking new ground on his own.”Justin Rain [4]

Not only is Justin Rain becoming an icon for First Nation’s people in general, but is also the up and coming young Aboriginal Actor soon to watch out for, often compared to as a young Adam Beach. To add to the long list of accolades and recognition received throughout his career is Justin’s recent lead performance as the stubborn and fiercely intelligent character, Adam, in Two Indians Talking. His performance in the feature length film won the Rogers Peoples Choice Award at the 2010 Vancouver International Film Festival and landed him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the 2010 American Indian Film Festival in San Francisco. Most recently, the young rising star took home the award for Best Actor at the 2010 Winnipeg Aboriginal Film Festival and has just recently been nominated for a Leo Award for his leading performance. Justin has also booked a Co-Star role on AMC’s “The Killing” episode 207 set to air May 6th, 2012 and the second season of “Blackstone” as Alan Fraser a Series Recurring role.

When Justin isn’t working on set as a professional actor he also devotes much of his time to his own Motivational Speaking workshops that he presents to Aboriginal youth in North America. Artist Inside is an Inspirational, Informative, and Interactive experience that connects with native youth on a personal level using presentations, experiential activities, and multimedia. Justin shares his personal and acting experiences with the hope that other young aspiring artists can understand the value of pursuing their dreams. Justin believes “…we are all artists in some way, shape or form; capable of anything we put our hearts and minds to.”

Defiance introduces players and viewers to a completely transformed planet Earth, inhabited by the disparate survivors of a universal war who endeavour to build a new society among the devastation. The TV counterpart weaves the rich tapestry of the world into a series with the scope, characters, and drama of a classic sci-fi epic. Set to air Spring 2013.
