Coinciding with Small Business Week, Sage today released the findings of a survey of more than 500 Canadian small business owners to determine ‘financial literacy,’ by gauging the overall perceptions, knowledge and habits of small business owners with regard to financial management, resources and compliance. Earlier today at the National Roundtable on Disaster Risk Reduction, the Honourable Vic Toews, Canada’s Minister of Public Safety, unveiled two online tools to help Canadians prepare for emergencies. The first, the enhanced Canadian Disaster Database, will help Canadians learn about risks affecting their regions. Desire2Learn U.K. Ltd., a member of the Desire2Learn family of companies, has announced that England’s University of Surrey will be implementing Desire2Learn® Learning Suite across several faculties and departments within the institution. The six year agreement will see implementation of the Desire2Learn platforms begin in October 2011 with the system due to go-live in August 2012 for the 2012/2013 academic year. Toronto developer DrinkBox Studios has announced that it is working on a new downloadable game titled Guacamelee, a game that features a down on his luck Mexican named Juan Aguacate, who sets out to save the world when El Presidente’s Daughter is kidnapped by an Evil Charro Skeleton. The story takes place in and around a small village in Mexico, and has the player travelling through alternate dimensions including “The World of the Dead” and “The World of Nightmares” on his quest to rescue the girl he loves.
