GTEC 2011 Announces Keynote Speakers and Next Gen Leadership Awards

GTECGTEC, produced by UBM TechWeb, announces keynote presentations from a leading speaker line-up including the Honourable Tony Clement, the CIO of Canada, Corinne Charette and the new head of shared services, Liseanne Forand. In addition to keynotes, GTEC presents a multi-day conference program, happening October 17-20, 2011 at the Ottawa Convention Centre, which includes a new Ignite-style session format to discuss the next generation workplace. 

“At a time when there are many important changes underway regarding how government leverages its IT infrastructure, we are excited to present this group of speakers who will address how governments are connecting to better serve Canadians,” said Nancy Dorigo, Executive Director of Content, GTEC Ottawa. “GTEC highlights government, industry and academic thought leaders and has organized an in-depth conference program that will help push essential discussions forward at Canada’s leading government technology event.”

GTEC 2011 keynote speakers currently include:

  • Katherine Garcia, Senior VP, Applications Services, HP Enterprise Services, Hewlett-Packard

  • William Eggers, Global Director, Public Sector Industry, Deloitte Research
  • Jeanette Horan, VP & Chief Information Officer, IBM

In addition to keynote presentations, this year’s professional development conference will focus on a variety of topics and technologies, including information security, data centers and virtualization, wireless, mobility, cloud computing, open data, accessibility and more, that will be presented by government, industry and academic leaders. GTEC will also feature a new 90-minute Ignite-style session that includes nine speakers in short, six minute presentations. These speakers will share their personal views and real-life experiences on one of three themes: people, technology and connections. Detailing changing demographics, new ways of working and the modes of interaction within and across departments, these vignettes will paint a detailed picture of the next generation workplace in a format new to GTEC.

The Distinction Awards Gala is a highlight of the annual GTEC event and recognizes leadership, innovation and excellence in information management and IT in the public sector. This year’s awards ceremony will recognize two next generation leaders. In the Federal category, Ryan Androsoff, Community and Collaboration Division, Chief Information Officer Branch, Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat represents the future of leadership in public service through high standards of professionalism and a diligent work ethic.

In the Provincial category, Ashwin Kutty, Program Manager, Mental Health & Forensics Program & Manager, Information Management, Capital District Health Authority – Nova Scotia received an award for his knowledge in health informatics and ability to bring together stakeholders, and work to manage patient flow in a multi-site, multi-service Academic Health Center. A new award to the program this year is the Judges’ Choice Award which will be awarded to Major Stellios Stratigakos, Department of National Defence, Information Management Group, Director General Information Management Operations for his excellence and knowledge in IT Operations and continued efforts to improve service delivery. The Distinction Awards Gala will celebrate these leaders and many other honourees on Monday, October 17.

GTEC will feature a major exhibition welcoming over 150 exhibitors to showcase the latest in IT solutions. Gold and Silver event partners include Cisco, Autonomy, HP, IBM, Mitel, OpenText and Telus.
