IFTech Launches Kickstarter Campaign For ARAIG Gaming Device

OrbyTwenty-three year old IFTech entrepreneur Brodie Stanfield is betting on crowdfunding for an edge to take on the establishment. He has initiated a thirty day funding campaign for his company on Kickstarter, where he hopes to obtain funding for his project ARAIG. Attempts at funding have been made through the normal investor channels, but IFTech has been stymied by an unwillingness of investors to take the risk and back an idea which competes against billion dollar companies like Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo. Canadian Video Game Industry Contributes $2.3 Billion to GDP – A Critical Component of New Digital Economy and Source of National Pride

ESACIn a keynote address at the Ottawa International Game Conference (OIGC), Jayson Hilchie, President & CEO of the Entertainment Software Association of Canada (ESAC) today unveiled new research about the Canadian video game industry. The research shows that Canada’s overall video game industry is still growing at a moderate pace, even as the sector and its business models continue to evolve. Unveiling top-line results from new research conducted by Nordicity for ESAC, Hilchie showed that Canada’s 329 video game studios are a critical component of this country’s new digital economy generating over $2.3 billion in GDP for the Canadian economy in 2012. 2nd Annual Feminists in Games Workshop – Vancouver

feminists in gamesFem­i­nists in Games, funded by a Cana­dian SSHRC Grant is an endeavor cre­ated with the pur­pose of assem­bling an inter­na­tional research asso­ci­a­tion of dig­i­tal media researchers from a full range of salient dis­ci­plines to begin build­ing ‘con­nec­tive tis­sue’ between and among them, so as to bet­ter under­stand the ori­gins and con­se­quences of this gen­dered dig­i­tal divide, and inter­vene in its reproduction. In the group’s second annual workshop, which will be held at the Centre For Digital Media this May 31st and June 1st, attendees will have two full days of panels, presentations and discussions on issues which impact women in technology and development. triOS College Launches 2-Day Weekend Video Game Camps

trios collegetriOS College has announced the launch of its new weekend video game camps, aimed at getting students excited and informed about what it takes to design and develop a video game.  These two-days camps run out of the triOS College Toronto and Kitchener campuses on select weekends from May 25 to August 24, 2013, with potentially more dates to be added. Video game enthusiasts will be able to choose from two different camps: “Learning to make Games with Gamemaker” for ages 11-14 and “Game Development with Unity 3D” for ages 15-17.  Interested participants can get details and register online. EA Sports And FIFA Extend Licensing Agreement

EA SportsEA Sports™, a division of Electronic Arts Inc. and the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) have announced an extension of their existing licensing agreement until December 31, 2022. Under the terms of the agreement, EA Sports maintains exclusive rights to release FIFA-branded action and management videogames.
