Canada’s Most Competitive People Play Scrabble For Literacy

frontier collegeWithout a doubt, the most competitive street in the country is Toronto’s Bay Street.   On February 29th, it’ll be lawyer against lawyer; broker against broker; banker against banker as teams compete for the highest Scrabble score to raise money for literacy. This year’s SCRABBLE® Corporate Challenge is on target to be a record breaker for Frontier College with more teams (60), a bigger venue (Sony Centre), and a goal to raise over $350,000 for Frontier College’s literacy programs. Game Jam The Documentary

mini-orbyToronto’s D.A.R.C. Productions Inc. has begun production on a documentary about game jams and the developers who participate in them. The first round of footage was shot during the Toronto segment of the Global Game Jam, shadowing four teams throughout the event as they took a game from concept to playable in one weekend. Door-To-Door Canvassers Not Sanctioned By Children’s Wish

Cineplex Entertainment to Add 100 RealD 3D Systems

cineplexCineplex Entertainment and RealD Inc. have announced that Cineplex will add 100 additional RealD 3D systems to its circuit. Upon completion of the installation, approximately 40% of the Cineplex circuit will be 3D capable. The installation of these RealD 3D systems is scheduled to be completed by June 30th of this year. Announcing the 2011 Aviva Community Fund Finalists

avivaAfter over two million votes, thirty ideas have risen to the top and been chosen as finalists for this year’s Aviva Community Fund competition. The Fund, now in its third year and created by home and auto insurer Aviva Canada, provides $1,000,000 in donations to lead, empower and support community initiatives across the country. (We here at Village Gamer had hoped to see the Youth At Risk project make it into the finals, and while it was close, the joint Abbotsford Police and Fire Department program did not make the top ten medium-sized projects.)
