In a keynote address at the Ottawa International Game Conference (OIGC), Jayson Hilchie, President & CEO of the Entertainment Software Association of Canada (ESAC) today unveiled new research about the Canadian video game industry. The research shows that Canada’s overall video game industry is still growing at a moderate pace, even as the sector and its business models continue to evolve. Unveiling top-line results from new research conducted by Nordicity for ESAC, Hilchie showed that Canada’s 329 video game studios are a critical component of this country’s new digital economy generating over $2.3 billion in GDP for the Canadian economy in 2012. Games shown at the Electronic Entertainment Expo video game trade show are usually playable only by the few industry insiders who make the trip to Los Angeles each year, but this year Nintendo and Best Buy are teaming up to make sure people across Canada can get their hands on a select list of Nintendo’s E3 games. Demos of the games will be playable at 21 Canadian Best Buy locations. The games will be playable 4-8 p.m. local time on Wednesday, June 12th, and 1-5 p.m.

The Canada Media Fund (CMF) would like to congratulates all winners of the Youth Media Alliance Awards of Excellence, which were presented last night at a gala held at CBC’s Glenn-Gould Studio in Toronto. The Awards of Excellence recognize the creative talents of those working in children’s & youth television and digital content across Canada – the same talent that has contributed to making Canada a world-leader in children’s & youth content creation.
