Approximately 25 Grade 3 students in Orleans will premiere their six new videos to highlight “Digital Citizenship”, the theme of this year’s Media Literacy Week. The Week is an annual event held jointly by the Media Awareness Network (MNet) and the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF). This year’s theme – “Digital Citizenship” – calls on Canadians to encourage young people to reflect on their online lives, and their rights and responsibilities as they navigate the digital world. Cineplex Entertainment has announced it will donate $400,000 to the Starlight Children’s Foundation after hosting its first-ever National Community Day. On October 22nd, guests began lining up early at Cineplex theatres across Canada for a fun-filled morning of free movies, discounted snacks and other events with 100% of the proceeds going to Starlight. Intertainment Media and Dx3 Canada have announced a partnership to launch the “Intertainment Media Incubation Zone” (IMIZ) at the Dx3 Canada event on January 25th & 26th at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The “IMIZ” will showcase some of Canada’s formalized Incubation Programs, with Ryerson’s DMZ, OCADU, the Impact Entrepreneurship Group and MEIC already confirmed as participants. Best Buy Canada is opening a new store in Brossard, Quebec this weekend, with the celebrations beginning on Friday, November 4 at Quartier DIX30, 8480 Boulevard Leduc. ConnectED Canada is a brand new conference focused on involving teachers, students and parents in the drive to move Canada’s educational system forward into the future. The inaugural event will be held on May 25th through 27th 2012 at the Calgary Science School.
The organizers want to focus on establishing a dialogue between those most effected by the evolution of our schools and curriculum, and want to find those who are interested in sparking inspirational and productive conversations. If you have a topic that fits within this model, please fill in the submission form so that organizers can consider your proposal. Deadline for proposals is December 8th, with speaker notifications going out on December 22nd, which is also the date when registration is scheduled to open.
