Family ChannelAfter tearing up the stage at last year’s Big Ticket Summer Concert, multi-talented recording artist, dancer and actress, Zendaya (Shake It Up), is kicking off Family Channel’s sensational summer programming lineup, starring in the hilarious new Disney Channel Original Movie, Zapped. Premiering Friday, June 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, day and date with Disney Channel in the U.S., the dance-filled flick features Zendaya as Zoey Stevens, a high school student who unwittingly comes into possession of a smartphone app that magically controls boys. Immediately following the film’s debut, viewers will be treated to an exclusive sneak peek of the highly anticipated new series Girl Meets World, which premieres on Family Channel this August.

Filmed on Vancouver Island, Zapped follows Zoey Stevens, a skilled dancer and straight-A student whose life is turned upside-down when her mother remarries and she finds herself as part of a family of rambunctious, chaotic and messy boys, and an unruly dog. After a freak accident with her smart phone, Zoey learns she has a magical app that can somehow control all the boys around her. Thrilled at the chance to restore order to her world, Zoey begins commanding the boys in her life to behave better, but soon learns that when you don’t allow boys to be boys, you’re asking for trouble. Starring alongside Zendaya is Spencer Boldman (Disney XD’s Lab Rats) as Jackson, the one guy at her new school who stands apart from everyone else. Zapped will be available on Family OnDemand beginning July 11.

Chanelle Peloso and Zendaya star in Zapped.

In addition to Zendaya and Boldman, Zapped stars Chanelle Peloso (Radio Rebel) as Zoey’s best friend Rachel Todds; Canadian actress Emilia McCarthy (Bunks, Hemlock Grove) as Taylor Dean, captain of the rival dance squad; and Vancouver-native Adam DiMarco (Radio Rebel) as Adam Thompson, the eldest of Zoey’s impossible stepbrothers.

Fans of Zendaya can head over to Family.ca to enter Best Western’s “Get Zapped with Zendaya Contest” for a chance to win a once in a lifetime trip for four to meet the star in L.A. and learn her favourite dance scene from movie. In anticipation of the movie’s premiere, Family.ca will release the brand new music video for Zapped’s original song “Too Much” on May 23. But in the meantime, site visitors can also watch Zendaya as Rocky Blue in past episodes of Shake It Up and check out the series’ music video “Remember Me.”

The excitement continues that night with an exclusive sneak peek at the eagerly-awaited series Girl Meets World immediately following the movie. Starring newcomer Rowan Blanchard as Riley Matthews, Girl Meets World tells the funny and heartfelt stories that Boy Meets World is renowned for – only this time from a tween girl’s perspective. Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel reprise their roles as Cory and Topanga Matthews from the hit family sitcom. In the special preview episode, the typically studious Riley joins a homework rebellion in an attempt to be more like her best friend, Maya (singer Sabrina Carpenter, Sofia the First), but it quickly leads to a rift between father and daughter.

Zapped is directed by Peter DeLuise (16 Wishes, Kyle XY) and executive-produced by Jane Goldenring (Radio Rebel, My First Mister); Carol Baum (Father of the Bride, The Good Girl); Michael Prupas (The Kennedys); and Harvey Khan (Spooksville). The producer is Lisa Towers (The Christmas Choir). Based on the book “Boys Are Dogs” by Leslie Margolis, the screenplay is written by Rachelle Skoretz with revisions by Matt Eddy and Billy Eddy. Aakomon “AJ” Jones (Pitch Perfect) is the choreographer.

Produced by Off-Leash Teleproductions, Inc., Zapped is distributed by Muse Distribution International and MarVista Entertainment and is licensed by ABC Cable Networks and Family Channel. Muse Distribution International is the sales arm of Muse Entertainment Enterprises, a leading production company with facilities in Canada and L.A. Muse, internationally known for The Kennedys, Bomb Girls, Pillars of the Earth and Cyberbully, has produced over 170 TV series, mini-series, movies and feature films which won over 100 awards including 5 Emmy Awards.
