ESAC Announces New Vice-President, Policy And Legal Affairs

ESACThe Entertainment Software Association of Canada has announced the appointment of Tanya Woods as its new Vice-President, Policy and Legal Affairs. Tanya joins ESAC from Bell Canada (BCE) where she acted as Legal Counsel on regulatory and copyright matters in Ottawa.  At Bell, Tanya’s primary role was to serve as BCE’s in-house copyright expert advising senior executives on a range of policy matters such as multi-platform licensing, anti-piracy, legislative reform, international trade agreements and corporate policy. Tanya has experience dealing with government and regulatory issues, having participated in a number of multi-sectoral coalitions and working groups and has appeared as a witness at parliamentary committees reviewing legislation such as copyright reform. 

Prior to her role at Bell, Tanya was a Senior Trade Policy Officer at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade where she worked on intellectual property matters and prepared Canada’s position on intellectual property in various Tanya Woodsinternational trade agreements, including working on the Canada-EU Trade Agreement. Tanya has also worked on developing federal copyright policies in relation to enforcement and protection matters in her former role as a Senior Policy Advisor for Industry Canada.

Tanya holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ottawa, a Master of Laws in Technology Law from the University of Ottawa and a Master of Laws in International Comparative Protection of Intellectual Property from the Washington College of Law at American University in Washington, DC.  Tanya has done work for a number of organizations in Canada and abroad, including the Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts.  She is multi-lingual, speaking English, French and Spanish.  Tanya will continue to reside in Ottawa providing ESAC with valuable on the ground support for federal advocacy initiatives.
