Shaw Helps Create “A World of Smiles” in Support of BC Children’s Hospital
Shaw Communications and BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, together with British Columbia’s South Asian community, are celebrating the 15th anniversary of A World of Smiles telethon on Sunday May 26, 2013. The telethon will air live on Sunday, May 26 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and aims to raise funds to help meet the most urgent health needs of BC’s children. Money raised is used to purchase essential medical equipment and to fund critical research into childhood disease and caregiver and family education programs. Each year, more than 81,000 children and their families from across the province visit BC Children’s Hospital for highly specialized care.
The 2013 A World of Smiles telethon is broadcast live from Shaw’s Coal Harbour studios in Vancouver. Viewers can tune in to the telethon on Shaw Multicultural Channel (SMC), channel 116 in Metro Vancouver, Squamish and Whistler. The telethon will also air on local Shaw TV stations throughout British Columbia and on Shaw Direct channel 299.
Hosted by Shaw personalities Melanie Pineda, Bianca Solterbeck, Dunia Tozy and Peter Verge, community host Atish Ram, and guest hosts from Global Television, the telethon features performances by local artists and dancers, celebrity guest appearances and inspiring stories of courage and hope from patients at BC Children’s Hospital.
