Cara Volchoff Named Head Of Factual Entertainment Pixcom Productions

pixcomNicola Merola, Vice-President of International Productions, is pleased to announce the appointment of Cara Volchoff as the company’s Head of Factual Entertainment, where she is currently producing Thrift Hunters (Travel & Escape CAN, Spike USA) and recently joined the Pop Quiz (E!) team, with hopes of introducing a slew of new programming to Pixcom‘s slate very soon.

“We are very proud of the groundbreaking documentary programming within the Pixcom portfolio. The timing is perfect to further develop and diversify our factual division and I am very excited that Cara is coming on board to help us do that” said Mr. Merola.Cara Volchoff

“I am thrilled to be joining the Pixcom family. As a producer, writer, director and lover of factual entertainment, this opportunity is incredibly exciting. The creative team at Pixcom is not only innovative in thought; they are passionate about telling stories that make viewers think, feel, and react. That is a team I want to be a part of,” says Ms. Volchoff. With over ten years of industry experience, Volchoff has balanced both sides of the camera and has proudly produced award-winning series for industry leading production houses and networks in both Canada and the United States.

As one of Canada’s leading independent television producers, Pixcom is already a power player in the world of high quality documentary series. Known for telling epic real-life stories centered around dangerous environments, workplaces and subject matter that presents both logistical and technological challenges, the company now looks to branch out into additional areas of factual entertainment. “I am confident that Cara’s skill and determination will benefit the company greatly in cultivating the ongoing growth of our department” remarks Merola.

Volchoff, who will essentially focus on Life Style and Variety, is joining the International Productions permanent team: Manu Wiecha, Head of Factual – Documentary Series, and Meredith Fowke, Content Producer, Development.  Fowke’s talent is behind the creation of many hit series in Pixcom’s English language catalogue.  Wiecha, instrumental in getting most of the large international doc series off the ground that Pixcom is known for, is currently overseeing 5 series in production aimed specifically at the Canadian and international markets: Licence To Drill (28 x 60 minutes), Dangerous Flights (18 x 60 minutes) and House Jackers (10 x 60 minutes), for Discovery Channel Canada, as well as Canadian Restorers (9 x 60 minutes) and Bomb Hunters (15 x 60 minutes) for History Television.
