Canada’s Top 100 Employers 2014 Application Now Available

Canada's Top 100 ProjectThe editors of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project have released their 2014 application, which will determine the winners of the national project as well as 20 other popular regional and special-interest “top employer” competitions.  Winners of the national project will be announced this fall in The Globe and Mail. This year’s application deadline is June 13, 2013, and The Top 100 editorial team will host a free webinar for employers interested in applying to this year’s project on May 7 and 14.

“We expect to receive a record number of applications this year,” says Tony Meehan, Publisher at Mediacorp Canada Inc., which manages the project. “Together with our newspaper and magazine partners, our editors annually bring the stories of exceptional employers to more than 13 million Canadians – more than ever before.”

Each year, the editors at Canada’s Top 100 Employers write more than 400,000 words explaining why the winning employers were selected – publishing detailed Reasons for Selection is a distinguishing feature of the project.  These reasons are available free of charge on Eluta.ca, the popular job search engine operated by Mediacorp.  To determine the national winners each year, Mediacorp editors evaluate applicants on eight criteria: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time-Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Employee Engagement; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement.

Now entering its 14th year, the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project recognizes the companies and organizations across Canada that lead their industries in providing exceptional places to work.  Employers complete a detailed application to be considered for the national competition, 11 regional awards and nine special-interest competitions, including: Canada’s Top Employers for Young People, Canada’s Best Diversity Employers, Canada’s Greenest Employers, Financial Post’s Ten Best Companies to Work For, and Canada’s Top Family-Friendly Employers.

This year, the Top 100 editorial team will be unveiling a new award, Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers, which will be announced on October 16 in The Globe and Mail.  The new designation will focus on companies that have less than 500 employees, shining a spotlight on this important part of Canada’s economy.  SMEs account for 45% of Canada’s GDP, much of the economy’s growth, 60% of all jobs in the economy, and 75% of net employment growth.
