Roam Mobility Reaches Canadian Retail Presence Of 400+ Locations

roamAfter a year of rapid growth and a partnership with London Drugs, Roam Mobility Inc. now has a retail presence in six provinces and more than 400 locations. In 2012, Roam launched their own network, which enables Canadians travelling in the US to enjoy unlimited calling and international text message for $3 per day including free calling back to Canada for worry free roaming. Data add-ons are available for just $1 per day. Products include phones, portable Wi-Fi hotspots, and SIM cards that can be used in any unlocked GSM phone. The company will also be releasing a nano-SIM card for the iPhone 5 in May.

“The response from retailers and consumers has been incredible,” says Emir Aboulhosn, founder and SVP Business Development of Roam Mobility. Although the company faced the challenge of introducing a new product category to the market, Aboulhosn says most retailers they approached saw the potential immediately. “The market was really crying out for a simple, low cost and Tier 1 solution to the problem of outrageous roaming fees for Canadians travelling across the border,” he says.

The addition of London Drugs to Roam’s dealer network will make affordable roaming replacement products available to millions of Canadian through the retailer’s 76 locations in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.

“London Drugs is proud to be partnering with Roam Mobility to provide our customers with more choice in how they use their mobile phones when travelling,” says Chris Gibson, Electronics Buyer at London Drugs. “Roam Mobility is an innovative Canadian company that saw a unique and creative way to bring value to Canadians. These are the same qualities that London Drugs customers have come to expect from us and why we are excited to be selling their products in all of our stores.”

To reach their core market of Canadian travellers, Roam has adopted an aggressive retail strategy that includes airports, duty-free stores, and inflight retail opportunities. In addition to being available at electronics or travel retailers such as Future Shop, Shaw, and Pipestone Travel, Roam products can be found at airport retailer LS Travel (including iStore Boutique, Relay, and Virgin Books and Electronics) and select flights on Allegiant Airlines.

While Roam’s retail focus is on the Canadian market, the company has also found success across the border. In November 2012, Roam released Ready SIM™, the first self-activating, pre-paid SIM card designed for the local US market and people travelling within the US. This year, Roam secured a partnership with The Marshall Retail Group (MRG), America’s largest independent specialty retailer in the casino resort marketplace. MRG will carry Ready SIM in 14 of its retail locations in Las Vegas, NV.
