THINK Conference To Challenge Education And Research Sectors To Seek Creative Solutions To Extreme Data

orionThe annual THINK Conference on Thursday April 25th will challenge leaders in Ontario’s research, innovation, and education sectors to consider “Extreme Data” and the impact it has on their institutions. Participants will be inspired by local and international data experts: Dr. Ann Cavoukian, Ontario Information and Privacy Commissioner, John Weigelt, Microsoft Canada National Technology Officer, and Dr. Gregory Bell, Director of the US Energy Sciences Network.

The Honourable Reza Moridi, Minister of Research and Innovation, will speak at 12:45 p.m. and will present the ORION Leadership Awards, which recognize individuals and groups who have led and championed the use of advanced and collaborative technologies.

“The future of the ICT world is at an inflection point and connectivity is a critical element needed to support our researchers, students and innovators,” said Darin P. W. Graham, Ph.D., President and CEO, ORION. “As the “Backbone of Innovation” for Ontario, ORION is immersed in supporting and facilitating the development of a cohesive digital infrastructure to help our users turn their ideas into reality.”

The Ontario Research and Innovation Optical Network (ORION) is Ontario’s advanced technology fibre optic network that connects the province’s research and education sectors. ORION is convening the annual THINK Conference to encourage the organizations it serves to consider “extreme data” and to collaborate on developing ideas that lead to innovative solutions.

An expert panel will be led by key Ontario thought leaders:

  • Dr. Daniela Crivianu-Gaita, VP & CIO, the Hospital for Sick Children
  • Dr. Charles Davis, Professor, Ryerson University, E.S. Rogers Senior Research Chair of Media Management and Entrepreneurship
  • David Nicholl, Ontario Government Corporate Chief Information Officer
  • Gregory Kovich, Business Development Specialist, Higher Education & K-12 North America, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Division
