Corus Entertainment Receives Competition Bureau Clearance to Acquire TELETOON, Historia and Séries+

Corus EntertainmentOn Friday, March 15, Corus Entertainment Inc. received clearance from the Competition Bureau, with the issuance of the appropriate no action letter, to proceed with the transactions between Corus and Bell.  Pursuant to these transactions, Corus will acquire the 50% remaining ownership interest in TELETOON which includes the services TELETOON, Télétoon (French), TELETOON Retro, Télétoon Rétro (French) and Cartoon Network (Canada), as well as the 50% ownership interests in the French-language specialty channels, Historia and Séries+, that Bell will acquire as part of the acquisition of Astral Media Inc. Canada Media FundThe Canada Media Fund (CMF) has announced Program Guidelines for the 2013-2014 fiscal year. It also announced the program budget for 2013-2014 set at $360.7 million. The 2013-2014 Program Budget is set at $360.7 million. The breakdown of the Program Budget can be viewed on the CMF website as a PDF. The CMF’s operating costs, including industry partnerships and program administration, have been reduced by 6 % in keeping with the objective to commit the most funds possible to its programs. 2013 Canadian Videogame Awards Finalists Announced

Canadian VideoGame AwardsThe finalists in sixteen categories were announced today for the upcoming Canadian Videogame Awards, which will be held in Vancouver on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Vancouver Convention Centre in conjunction with  Fan Expo Vancouver.  Over 100 nominations were received this year from all parts of Canada, with ­­25 games represented in the list of finalists. Minuum To End Battle Between Mobile Screen Space And Keyboards

whirlscapeCanadian tech start-up Whirlscape Inc. has developed “the little keyboard for big fingers.” Minuum is a tiny, one-dimensional keyboard that frees up mobile screen space while allowing fast, accurate typing. Its specialized, patent-protected auto-correction algorithm corrects highly imprecise typing. This algorithm, based on the touchscreen and wearable device research of company founders, Will Walmsley (researcher) and Khai Truong (associate professor) at the University of Toronto, configures the difference between what you type and what you mean, in real time, getting it right even if you miss every single letter.
