The Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board, celebrated International Open Data Day yesterday by participating in a Speed Dating session with Vancouver Open Data developers and city officials. International Open Data Day is a Canadian-inspired event created by Vancouver-based Open Data speaker and public policy entrepreneur, David Eaves. The event, which this year was celebrated in over 90 cities around the world, brought together Open Data enthusiasts to brainstorm about how to turn raw, government data into user-friendly applications. Rainmaker Entertainment Inc. announced Friday the dismissal of a lawsuit in respect of alleged profit participation rights on the film Escape from Planet Earth, which was released in theatres on February 15th. Rainmaker and a subsidiary had been named as defendants, along with a number of other parties, in a suit filed in the New York Supreme Court. Rainmaker had previously obtained an indemnity from the copyright owner and the distributor of the film. On February 20, 2013, a Stipulation of Discontinuance was filed with the New York Supreme Court dismissing the litigation against all named parties and a mutual release was executed.

ACTRA Toronto is pleased to announce the winners of the 11th Annual ACTRA Awards in Toronto, which were presented last evening at The Carlu. The gala evening was hosted by Elvira Kurt with live music by multiple Maple Blues nominee, Shakura S’Aida. The ACTRA Awards in Toronto recognize outstanding performances by ACTRA Toronto members.
