mini-orby“Live Like Viv!” is the entertaining, fun, beautiful, and extravagant new web series featuring artist, designer, chef, urban farmer Vivian Reiss. Viewers are invited to step in to her world when, in this first episode, Reiss makes chocolate pudding from scratch in her over the top kitchen.

“Mention chocolate pudding to a friend, even on the phone, you can feel their brain pleasure centers light up, their chest warm and their hearts fly open,” says Vivian. “Their verbal response will probably be ‘My Mother used to make me chocolate pudding… from a mix.’ My-T-Fine, Jello, etc., will be the names that follow. Imagine if your love didn’t need to mentioned with a brand affiliation. The love you garner from making chocolate pudding from scratch, for now and the future, will be attributed to you, and you alone. Chocolate pudding is really easy to make from scratch, and from the following video from my new webseries ‘Live Like Viv’ I show you how. I am launching this new web series to bring viewers into my extravagant and beautiful lifestyle – the lifestyle of an artist, chef, designer and urban farmer.”

Some future episodes of “Live Like Viv”: fashionable Alps and Fondue, Lobster Archduke, and Folengrandos’ Greek Salad. Filmed on location in Reiss’ home, studio and garden which has been featured in newspapers, magazines, academic lectures, tv and video internationally.

In her career of 38 years, she has traveled the world, gut renovated and designed over two dozen Victorian homes, raised multi-talented children, Joel Garten and Ariel Garten, and has staged parties and dinners, such as one for Valentine’s day entitled,”Unnatural Nature”, where in the depths of winter the picnic was served in the living room on astroturf with mechanical flowers, birds, insects and fishes standing in for the real thing.

Large scale oil on canvas portraits are a specialty. She spent 3 months in a small mountain village in rural Japan of 180 inhabitants whose last names were all Omi. As she gained the confidence of the people, they began sitting for their portraits and sharing their innermost thoughts and history. It culminated in 18 portraits, shown as “Satoyama Storehouse” exhibited in the village abandoned schoolhouse as part of the Echigo Tsumari Triennial.

Reiss is also a pioneer in the Urban Farming movement. For 28 years her downtown garden has been filled annually with at least 100 types of edibles. She also farms on a midtown office building roof garden that she created. On the rooftop the specialties are lettuces and 40 varieties of tomatoes.

Reiss is presently writing a cookbook whose working title is “The Artist’s Garden.” It will features recipes using the urban crops she grows, photographs by Reiss, and features her large scale oil paintings of the gardens she has created.

All of this richness as well as special guests will provide the inspiration for the “Live Like Viv” series, which was conceptualized and produced by Joel Garten.
