TVO Visits Peterborough March 2 And 3 To Explore The Future Of Education

TVOTVO visits Peterborough March 2 and 3 for the second stop on the TVO on the Road: Learning 2030 tour exploring how science and technology are transforming the way people learn and teach. The theme for the Peterborough visit is Teachers: Then, Now and Tomorrow – an examination of how prepared teachers are to integrate new technologies in the classroom. This two-day event will be centered at Trent University and include on-air, online and in-community components, inviting citizens and experts to share their ideas on the future of learning.

On Saturday March 2 from 1 to 4 pm, the TVOKids Mozilla Hive Pop Up engages kids in a digital literacy workshop. The event will take place at Trent University’s Gzowski College and is the first event of its kind in Peterborough. The Hive Pop Up will bring non-profit organizations that use technology and web culture to fuel learning together with kids who will participate in activities designed to spark their imagination. While kids are building a website, learning how a 3-D printer works, creating a game, designing an app or making an e-book, their parents are invited to the Parents Zone where they can explore the digital future of education. Parents can register their kids for the TVOKids Mozilla Hive Pop Up on the tour info page.

Also on Saturday between 2:30 and 4 pm at Trent University, TVO’s Steve Paikin, anchor and senior editor of The Agenda with Steve Paikin, will host a gathering of engaged citizens to hold an open discussion on the future of Aboriginal education. On the heels of The Agenda’s Idle No More coverage, TVO continues the conversation around indigenous issues and will live stream the event.

On Sunday March 3 members of the public are invited to be part of the audience for live recordings of two TVO programs in the Great Hall, Champlain College at Trent University. Beginning at 12:30 pm, Steve Paikin hosts a special Big Ideas lecture by leading education authority, Michael Fullan, on the challenges awaiting teachers in making their classrooms open to the technological revolution that is changing the face of education. Following the lecture, TVO’s flagship current affairs program, The Agenda with Steve Paikin, will bring together experts and educators to debate and discuss how ready Ontario’s teachers are to take on this challenge.

Both programs will be streamed live and available at online, where people can share their comments and ideas in a live chat beginning at 12:30 pm. The Agenda with Steve Paikin program will also air on TVO on Monday March 4 at 8 pm and 11 pm.

“We’re excited to be out on the road again and to engage Ontarians in a discussion about how digital technology is re-shaping the way we learn,” says Lisa de Wilde, TVO’s Chief Executive Officer. “As a multiplatform public educational media organization, TVO is uniquely positioned to use our media toolkit to provide content and depth that helps Ontarians better understand the big issues of the day.”

To register for free tickets to be part of the audience for The Agenda with Steve Paikin and Big Ideas, or to participate in other TVO on the Road: Learning 2030 events please visit the tour info page.
