Just For Laughs Announces More Comedy Acts

Just For LaughsJFL42, presented in association with Air Canada, today announced additional programming including a unique Q&A session with Green Party of Canada leader Elizabeth May and Canadian rock star and Our Lady Peace front man, Raine Maida. The inaugural Festival, which is a joint partnership between Just For Laughs and Live Nation, whose mandate is to share 42 of the most awesome, hilarious, innovative, riveting and relevant experiences in the world with Toronto audiences will take place from September 21-28 at various venues across the city.

Additional comedy acts added to the Festival line-up include

  • Dave Merheje
  • Toronto institution ALTdot Comedy Lounge

Additionally, the winner of Toronto.com’s Funniest Torontonian Contest will be performing, which the public will select by voting online for their favourite video submission. Voting for the contest began on Sunday, August 19.

JFL42 announced more than just comedy with the addition of art, music, film, theatre and food, including:

  • Rocker, journalist and author Dave Bidini teams up with sketch troupe The Imponderables for “The Night of the Dogs.”
  • A live mural painting by the Montreal graffiti artist who designed the JFL42 logo, Earth Crusher, who will be stopping by a surprise location outside one of the JFL42 venues to create an artistic masterpiece.
  • Screenings of comedy docs on Friday, September 28 of Sarah Silverman: Jesus is Magic (9:30pm – introduction by Mark Little) and The Aristocrats (11:30pm – introduction by Big Jay Oakerson) in partnership with Bloor Hot Docs Cinema.
  • The Comedy Network presents a live version of the beloved classic game show Match Game, in which competitors try to match answers to fill-in-the-blank questions with those of celebrities. The Comedy Network is currently producing an English-language revival of Match Game, with episodes premiering this fall. JFL42 will bring its own unique spin to the live version, which will feature comics from the Festival line-up.
  • A unique encore performance of Toronto Fringe standout Pomme is French for Apple, a hilarious, vaudevillian and distinctly West Indian exploration of the absurdity in women’s lives, created and performed by Liza Paul and Bahia Watson.
  • A free mini donut at Paulette’s Donuts and Chicken for all pass-holders. The restaurant will also feature a special JFL42 donut which will be available throughout the Festival dates.
