Discovery Channel Canada Comes to the App Store

Discovery Channel Canada announced today that its new Discovery Channel App for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch is now available on the App Store. The app, custom developed and designed for the Canadian audience, acts as a companion to the Discovery Channel’s unique lineup of Discovery Shows, allowing viewers to engage via socially-driven, show-related chat environments and to participate in polls, trivia, contests and more. Users will be able to extend and share the Discovery experience with their network of friends and followers as they watch shows live on broadcast or when they are catching up through the app.

“The Discovery Channel App offers even more ways for Discovery’s always-curious audience to engage with our content,” said Paul Lewis, President and General Manager, Discovery Channel Canada. “We know our audience has an insatiable appetite for all things Discovery and the app gives us a new way to provide, share and engage our loyal fans with show-specific, audience-centric extensions of Discovery Channel programming.”

“As the discourse around television programming evolves, Bell Media is committed to providing the audience with adaptable and symbiotic tools that amplify the resonance of programming,” said Steven Bickley, Executive Vice-President, Marketing and Business Development, Bell Media. “The Discovery App gives viewers who are looking for an enriched experience a great platform for engagement, while doing all the things expected in a great brand-companion app, like catch up programming and show information.”

The Discovery Channel App features:

  • A companion experience to the TV viewing experience. The app offers one destination where the viewer can join in on the conversation through Twitter, Facebook and participate in polls, trivia and other show-specific campaigns.
  • Streaming video of select Discovery programming.
  • Series photos, episode guides, news updates, broadcast schedule and the ability to share content links across social networks.

The Discovery Channel App is available for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch – however – at post time I could not find the app using Search on iTunes, and there doesn’t appear to be a direct link to the App on Discovery’s web site.
