Perspecsys Announces New Cloud Data Protection Capabilities

perspecsysEnterprise cloud data protection solutions provider Perspecsys has announced a series of new capabilities that further extends its marketplace leadership. First among the company’s new capabilities is support for Federal Information Processing Standard 140-2 (FIPS 140-2) validated encryption modules, which are required for encrypting data within Federal organizations. The FIPS standards are also used extensively in many industries, particularly financial services, manufacturing, and healthcare, or wherever there are federal regulations governing data security.

“Use of FIPS 140-2 validated cryptographic modules is a requirement for protecting sensitive US Government data, and this impacts every organization that uses this sort of Federal information,” said David Canellos, CEO of PerspecSys. “Our solution was architected to give enterprises the flexibility they need to select the encryption and tokenization techniques that meet their specific requirements. By enabling the use of FIPS 140-2 validated modules to protect cloud data, PerspecSys is eliminating the security, compliance and usability barriers that previously prevented agencies from moving to the cloud. PerspecSys is the first and only company to offer this level of data protection while simultaneously preserving critical SaaS application capabilities, such as the ability to Search and Sort on FIPS 140-2 encrypted data fields.”

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) issues Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) as guidelines for use across the Federal government. These standards are developed when there are compelling Federal government needs, such as in the areas of information security and interoperability. The FIPS 140-2 standard is an information technology security accreditation program for validating that the cryptographic modules produced by private sector companies meet well-defined federal security standards. FIPS 140-2 validation is mandatory for use in government departments that collect, store, transfer, share and disseminate sensitive but unclassified (SBU) information.

PerspecSys’ Cloud Data Protection Gateway lets government agencies, public sector organizations and enterprises take full advantage of cloud SaaS applications while ensuring their sensitive data remains on-premise, under their full control, and in compliance with data protection regulations at all times. PerspecSys’ solution does this without impacting an end-user’s ability to perform functions such as Searching and Sorting within their SaaS applications.

FIPS 140-2 encryption is also useful for enterprises in industries such as manufacturing and healthcare that frequently need to comply with government regulations such as International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and HITECH, respectively.

Along with support for NIST approved FIPS 140-2 validated encryption modules, Perspecsys announced that it is expanding the capabilities of its Cloud Data Protection Gateway to cover the use of Microsoft Outlook with popular SaaS CRM applications. This means that companies using Outlook in conjunction with cloud CRM applications can send email communication through their CRM solution and automatically sync important contact and account information while all email and CRM data remains completely outside the cloud.

In addition to its new Microsoft Outlook capabilities, PerspecSys has also extended the capabilities of its Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) Server, a component of its Cloud Data Protection Gateway. This critical module enables businesses to utilize the email functionality of SaaS applications, while ensuring that no sensitive email addresses or e-mail content are stored in the cloud. The updates to the MTA Server extends support to all inbound CRM mail functions, which are typically used in interactive marketing or customer service activities.

The PerspecSys solution gives organizations important data privacy, residency and security capabilities when using cloud based applications. Sensitive information is secured through the use of tokenization or encryption, ensuring the data remains undecipherable when it is processed or stored in the cloud. With PerspecSys, organizations can be confident that their data is protected while their users enjoy the functionality of their cloud applications. The PerspecSys solution is designed to support many popular cloud applications at the same time, such as Oracle CRM On Demand, via “adapters” that enable interoperability between the application and the PerspecSys solution. PerspecSys currently delivers these capabilities to businesses in internationally regulated industries like financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, life sciences, retail and the public sector.
