Developers – Build New Educational Apps As Part Of Desire2Learn Edge Challenge

desire2learnEnterprise teaching and learning platform Desire2Learn Incorporated has announced the launch of Edge Challenge 2012 – a competition that challenges developers and students aspiring to be developers to shape the future of education by building apps that improve the experience of teachers, students, and administrators.

The Desire2Learn Edge Challenge 2012 revolves around the theme of “Create and Collaborate” and invites teams of up to five individuals to create a working software solution on a mobile web platform to illustrate an innovative approach to creating or collaborating within an active learning experience. The competition is open to students and professional developers.

The grand prize winning team will receive a cash prize of $25,000, and the opportunity for two team members and a team mentor to travel to San Diego to attend FUSION 2012, Desire2Learn’s Annual Users’ conference. The winners will also have the opportunity to present their prototype to eLearning leaders at FUSION during a one-hour demo, and question and answer period.

“Education is at its best when learners pool their collective talents to reach a common goal,” remarks John Baker, President & CEO, Desire2Learn. “We envision the Desire2Learn Edge Challenge acting as an outlet for developers’ unlimited creativity and innovation. It is also an opportunity for educators to gain access to even more transformative tools that will make their jobs easier on a daily basis. This is really about ‘building something that matters’ to students and instructors.”

Interested teams can find the full terms and conditions for the contest as well as register online. Submissions must be received by April 30th, 2012, consisting of the app itself as well as a short video demonstrating it in use. A short list will be determined by May 12th, and a team of eLearning leaders will determine the grand prize winner by June 1st.
