Canada Program at GDC 2012

Government of CanadaThe Government of Canada and partners Telefilm Canada and Export Development Canada are supporting Canada’s leading game development industry at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco with prestigious meeting space, a networking event and a matchmaking program.

In preparation for GDC, Economic Development, the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and Ubisoft Canada have partnered to present a webinar that will provide participants with an opportunity to learn more about this industry leader, and will help to prepare selected companies for private meetings during GDC.

Join us for this one-hour webinar and you will:

  • Get an understanding of Ubisoft’s corporate structure,
  • Gain valuable insight into Ubisoft’s strategic direction,
  • Learn how your company could be considered as a supplier for Ubisoft,
  • Obtain an overview of EDC and what support is available for exporters in this industry, and
  • Receive an insight into the Canada program during GDC.

This free webinar will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 and will run from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. EST. If you can’t attend, register anyway and you will be sent a note once a recording of the event has been posted online. You can then watch it on your own time.

Canada Business Lounge & Meeting Point

Canadian companies and organizations will have exclusive meeting space in the InterContinental Hotel. The
Canada Business Lounge is a semi-private setting that is steps away from the Moscone Center. Limited
private meeting space is also available. Canadian Trade Commissioners will be present to make introductions

International Matchmaking Program & Canada@GDC App – The Canadian Trade Commissioners Service (TCS) and Export Development Canada have confirmed participation of Konami, THQ, Big Fish, NBC Universal and MTVNetworks. Invitations to other publishers are being confirmed by Trade Commissioners in key markets including: Brazil, China, Japan, Taiwan, Los Angeles, New York, Miami, San Francisco, Palo Alto and Seattle. The publishers will Canada at GDC 2012select Canadian companies from Canadian company profiles shared with them by the TCS or available on the App to meet with them at the Canada Business Lounge.

Canadian companies are invited to a) submit a profile that will be added to the Canada@GDC App, and b) meet a Trade Commissioner during GDC to learn more about opportunities in these markets. Please contact a provincial Trade Commissioner for more information.

The Canada Networking Event – March 7 | 4:30 – 8:30 p.m.
For the first time, the Canada Networking Event at GDC 2012 will be organized “by the industry, for the industry”. The Canadian Interactive Alliance / L’alliance interactive canadienne (CIAIC), with support from the Trade Commissioner Service, Telefilm and provincial partners, is planning to make this year’s reception the biggest and coolest ever! Canada @ GDC Play – March 6, 7 & 8
The Trade Commissioner Service will have a kiosk (#20) and a meeting room (#6) at GDC Play. The Canada@GDC kiosk will promote the Canada Business Lounge and the Canada@GDC app as destinations to learn more about Canada’s presence at GDC 2012. The meeting room will be available for Canadian companies participating in GDC Play to share. Canadian companies that participate in GDC Play (arrange their own kiosk or meeting room) are eligible for a 15% discount. Contact GDC Play directly for information about participating at GDC Play.
