Spongelab Interactive Wins International Acclaim

spongelabOnline science education company Spongelab Interactive has been awarded an Honourable Mention by the National Science Foundation (NSF) for their interactive Build-a-Body human anatomy game. The award was published in the February 3, 2012 issue of Science and is featured on the NSF website.

Spongelab.com has made it possible for thousands of science teachers and students in 123 countries to access otherwise expensive content and learning tools for free. “Our model addresses the education world’s need for an advanced teaching tool with no payment required,” says Spongelab founder Jeremy Friedberg.

Spongelab educational games offer easy-to-understand interactive models to encourage in-depth understanding of complex science. In Build-a-Body, players interact with a virtual anatomy lesson by recreating biological systems within a human form. The free game is playable online at Spongelab.com, with an iPad version available on the Apple App Store.build a body

The award-winning Build-a-Body is just one of hundreds of free, custom-made science education tools available on Spongelab.com. Spongelab makes learning easy by stitching together a detailed educational content library of science games, images and animations with integrated teaching tools and an incredibly powerful student assessment system. “By providing detailed feedback about students’ engagement with rich learning multimedia, Spongelab is changing the way educational content is produced and delivered,” says Friedberg.

Spongelab’s global user base is tripling every month as educators, partners and the Spongelab team continue to add new science materials. “Spongelab was built to foster an engaged learning community” says Friedberg. Credits and experience points are awarded for contributing content and using Spongelab.com, then redeemed for premium teaching tools and discounts on lab equipment purchases.

Build-a-Body took honours in the Interactive Media category of the Visualization Challenge 2011, the third time Spongelab has won an NSF award. In 2009, Spongelab won First Place for Genomics Digital Lab: Cell Biology. They also took First Place for Genomics Digital Lab: Plant Cells in 2008. Spongelab has been a global leader in developing innovative learning technologies, with awards from the United Nations and published three times in the Journal of Science.

All of Spongelab’s award-winning content is available for free on Spongelab’s global science community. To start using all the features, animations, interactives, images and games, sign up for a free account at Spongelab.com and start playing with science.
