VFS Announces 4th Annual Women In Games Scholarship

Vancouver Film School (VFS) is proud to launch its fourth annual Women in Games Scholarship as part of Game Design Expo 2012.  Worth up to $49,250, application details will be provided at the Game Design Open House on January 22nd, which also features sample classes and arcades of student- and alumni-created games.
The first and only of its kind in the world, the Women in Games Scholarship provides full tuition for an aspiring female game designer to attend VFS’s acclaimed one-year Game Design program. In a field traditionally dominated by men, the scholarship is a great opportunity and incentive for women looking to pursue a career in game design. Previous winners include Shannon Lee (Microsoft/BigPark) from Canada, Annie Dickerson (Digido Interactive) from the United States, and current VFS student Larissa Baptista from Brazil – all proof of the international impact of the scholarship and the talent it attracts.

“Once again I am proud to be a part of our annual Women in Games Scholarship. Our past winners have gone on to do amazing things in the game industry once they graduated, and we expect more great things from our most recent winners,” says Head of Game Design at VFS, Dave Warfield. “Supporting the growth of women in games is something that I feel strongly about; it benefits the industry to gain new perspectives, creativity, and passion that is reflective of how gaming has changed and expanded in the past 5 years.”
Attendees of the free, day-long Open House will also have the chance to meet faculty and students, and learn more about additional industry-sponsored scholarships for both men and women:

·         G4TechTV –  $7,000
·         Radical Entertainment – $2,500
·         Slant Six Games – $2,500
·         Annex Pro – $2,000
·         Microsoft/BigPark – $1,000

This weekend’s Open House is expected to fill to capacity, those who are interested in attending are advised to register now.
