doubleday canada [1]Doubleday Canada [1], an imprint of RandomHouse, is pleased to announce that it will publish a new book from acclaimed comedian Gerry Dee [2]. The as-of-yet untitled book will hit stores in the fall of 2012. Curtis Russell of P.S. Literary Agency negotiated the deal.

“Gerry Dee is one of Canada’s most talented comedians,” says Nita Pronovost, Senior Editor of Doubleday Canada. “He’s a brilliant storyteller with a unique ability to find humour in outrageous circumstances. Whether riffing on the trials of teaching, reminiscing about his own school days or revealing the truths of parenthood, his trademark candor makes everyone—young or old, teacher or student, parent or child—laugh out loud at him and at themselves. We are very proud to be publishing his hilarious debut book, one with universal appeal and a built-in guarantee to put smiles on many faces.”gerry dee [3]

Over the last decade, Gerry Dee has emerged as one of the hottest talents in the world of comedy. After a ten-year career as a high school teacher, he switched to full-time comedy in 2003. Since that time, Dee has attracted a legion of loyal fans throughout North America through constant touring and his appearances at numerous comedy festivals, including the prestigious U.S. HBO Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen and the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal.

In 2002, Dee was the first Canadian in 27 years to win the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition (former comics who got their start in this competition include Robin Williams, Dana Carvey and Ellen DeGeneres, to name a few). His numerous television appearances in the years that followed included CBS’s Star Search with Arsenio Hall, The Late, Late Show with Craig Kilborn and NBC’s Last Comic Standing 5, where he placed third.

Dee’s acting credits include the critically acclaimed CBC mini-series Canada-Russia ’72, where he played the role of hockey great Wayne Cashman, and The Trailer Park Boys: The Movie.

Winner of the Best Comic in Canada Award at the 2008 Canadian Comedy Awards, Dee has also received considerable attention for his hilarious segment Gerry Dee: Sports Reporter on “The Score”—Canada’s sports network.

Gerry Dee’s new sitcom, Mr. D. [4], debuted on CBC Television last evening, January 9th.
