Canadian Video Game Awards Show Returns In April 2012

Canadian Video Game AwardsCanada’s creative talent will once again gather on the West Coast this spring to celebrate its world-class video game developers at the third annual Canadian Videogame Awards ceremony to take place in Vancouver on April 3, 2012 during the International Digital Media Summit in Vancouver. Details about the Digital Media Summit have yet to be released.

Our Host Victor LucasAs the third largest developer of video games in the world, the show will celebrate Canada’s spot on the world stage as a leader in interactive entertainment. The show will also be broadcast across the country on CityTV and G4 Canada through the Rogers Network.

“As we head into the holiday season,” said Victor Lucas, co-host and executive producer of The Electric Playground and Reviews on the Run, “and videogames are high on everyone’s wish lists, I’d really like Scott JonesCanadians to recognize just how much incredible interactive entertainment was made this year in this country.”

Nominations opened today for the Awards and are welcome from all parts of Canada’s game industry. The Call for Nominations will close on February 1, 2012. The award categories, as selected by a committee of industry leaders from across Canada, are:

  • Game of the Year
  • Best Console
  • Best Game on the GoWilliam Ho and Briana McIvor
  • Best Downloadable Game
  • Best Audio
  • Best Social/Casual Game
  • Best Game Design
  • Best TechnologyThomas Wilson and Joe Nickolls
  • Best Visual Arts
  • Best Writing
  • Innovation Award

The three new categories for 2012 are:

  • Best Original MusicJonathan Dowdeswell and Julien Lavoie
  • Best New Character
  • Best Indie Game

Finalists in all categories will be announced March 1, 2012, when public voting for Game of the Year will open.

The Canadian Videogame Awards are produced by Reboot Communications and Greedy Productions and are officially endorsed by DigiBC and the Entertainment Software Association of Canada. The producers are joined by a national industry committee of developers and leaders of the Canadian digital entertainment industry.
