Burnaby’s tt-i launched the HD Buddy NightOwl plug & play mobile video camera this summer into the School Bus market and it is proving to be an ideal solution for Transportation Directors across the USA with limited budgets to spend on mobile video surveillance. The Buddy NightOwl offers one of the highest resolution and frame rate combination in the mobile video market. The Plug & Play NightOwl can be installed by a customer into a vehicle without incurring additional installationcosts in minutes. Addition NightOwls can also be installed in the same bus with a 2 or 3 way power socket adapter to the cigarette lighter pointing down the aisle of the Bus, forward facing or at the stop arm. The camera has 2 mounting options – suction cup to windshield or bulkhead screw mounting.

“Many of our customers are purchasing 6 or 10 cameras and then installing extra camera mountings in the rest of their fleet which allows them to move the camera unit to any bus they wish,” says Peter Allott President at tt-i, This flexibility allows Transportation Directors the option to move a video camera to any bus that might be experiencing some issues. Mr Allott goes onto say that “a customer in Ohio has a fleet of 55 buses and ordered 10 camera systems and extra mounts for the remaining 45 buses. With a budget under $8k he now has coverage over his whole fleet which with traditional fixed DVR solutions would have cost over $55k.

“Buddy” NightOwl has features such as High Definition, SD card up to 32GB (no moving parts) motion detection, night vision, built in screen to help position the camera view to the desired location. Video is recorded onto a SD card which has the added benefit of no moving parts and also makes transferring the data to a computer very easy via a SD card reader. The video can be viewed via windows media player so no addition software installation is required.

With 6 LED light built in the NightOwl takes HD quality video in the dark as well as in daylight. The motion detector sensor means that the unit will not start recording until the passengers get on the bus but is always in awake mode which eliminates continuous recording and prolongs the life of the unit.
