SAP and OpenText Bring Power of SAP NetWeaver Portal to the People

Open TextIn a move that makes it easier for customers to manage documents and website content within the SAP NetWeaver® Portal component, SAP AG has expanded its relationship with enterprise content management developer OpenText. The agreement adds two new applications to SAP NetWeaver Portal, which were developed by SAP together with OpenText: the SAP® Portal Content Management application by OpenText, an enterprise solution for managing document-related content; and the SAP® Portal Site Management application by OpenText, a solution helping a broad number of users easily manage Web content.

“Portals have evolved into critical information hubs from which companies can deploy more application functionality to a broader set of users, including externally,” said Sanjay Chikarmane, senior vice president and general manager, Technology Solutions, SAP. “SAP NetWeaver Portal enables users to create their own information not just for other employees, but for suppliers, customers or the general public as well — all via the Web. And with these two new applications from OpenText, users will realize even greater customer experiences by combining key applications with the right content.”

SAP Portal Content Management helps streamline content management processes by integrating content with the workflows and resources available in SAP NetWeaver Portal. It improves the efficiency of content creation, management and storage processes while supporting user collaboration and communication. Centralized access minimizes inconsistent, erroneous data while document audit trails and permission management feature enhanced content security.

SAP Portal Site Management allows a broad set of users within an organization to create and manage the Web content across multiple portal sites and pages hosted within SAP NetWeaver Portal. With it, users can improve content authoring; incorporate unstructured content into workflows; streamline translation; and make content readily accessible to employees, customers and partners alike.

“Given the explosion of content across organizations, SAP NetWeaver Portal is an essential tool for efficiently managing all that content,” said Patrick Barnert, vice president, SAP Solutions, OpenText. “These latest solutions tap our extensive knowledge and experience in working with SAP applications and customers to make it even easier for organizations to gain maximum benefit from their portal investments.”

SAP’s portal strategy is an important part of its goal to reach 1 billion people by 2015, and its flagship SAP NetWeaver Portal component has been seeing strong adoption among SAP customers. Earlier this year, it reached a milestone of 10,000 live deployments.

The 7.3 release of SAP NetWeaver Portal is easier than ever to deploy, and now is more easily extendable to partners and customers outside of the organization. The enhancements that arrived with the May 2011 general release of SAP NetWeaver Portal paved the way for greater productivity among users, individually as well as within teams. Enhancements that customers can look forward to with SAP NetWeaver Portal include integration of SAP® Business Suite software, analytics from the SAP® BusinessObjects™ portfolio and social interaction.
