Charles Taylor Prize for Literary Non-Fiction Announces Media Partnership with CBC

Charles Taylor PrizeThe trustees of the Charles Taylor Foundation and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation are pleased to announce CBC Books as a Media Partner for the upcoming 2012 prize. Noreen Taylor, prize founder and chair of the board of trustees of the Charles Taylor Foundation, made the announcement last evening at the International Festival Of Authors (IFOA) Charles Taylor Prize gala, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the prize at Harbourfront’s Fleck Dance Theatre in Downtown Toronto. IFOA celebrated the prize on stage salon-style with some of Canada’s best writers: Stevie Cameron, Charles Foran, Richard Gwyn, and Margaret MacMillan, hosted by author Paula Todd.

The media partnership will see prize-nominated authors providing on-line content for CBC Books including activity on Canada Writes, the writing arm of the online book portal. CBC Books will feature the Charles Taylor Prize 2012 shortlisted authors and the public broadcaster will have a role in prize promotion to include the Charles Taylor Prize Awards Luncheon on March 5, 2012.

In commenting on the partnership Noreen Taylor said, “For many years the Taylor Prize has worked closely with CBC. I cannot say how pleased I am to be once again working with the CBC to bring the country together through the works of our great non-fiction writers.”

“On the heels of CBC Books’ first anniversary, we are proud to offer a wider platform than ever before for authors, books and book lovers alike,” said Chris Boyce, executive director, Radio and Audio, English Services, CBC. “Non-fiction in particular has experienced a surge of interest this year and I’m pleased, with this renewed relationship with the Charles Taylor Prize, to bring the best in non-fiction to readers around the country”.
