Pythian Introduces New Oracle Database Appliance Fixed Price Deployment

The Pythian Group, Inc., a leading provider of remote database and applications infrastructure servicesand a Platinumpythian member of Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN), has added the new Oracle Database Appliance to its fixed-price database migration and support offering after testing the product during the beta program.

Pythian is confident the Oracle Database Appliance will be in high demand given its unique value proposition as a simple, highly reliable and affordable database appliance that is ideally suited for small to midsized companies and departmental databases.

Pythian’s EasyMigrate offering expedites adoption of the Oracle Database Appliance by providing customers a fixed cost and firm plan for migrating data to the appliance from any previous database version and any platform—including upgrading to Oracle Database 11g Release 2, which is a prerequisite of the new system. By taking into account the unique characteristics of the Oracle Database Appliance, EasyMigrate reduces migration cost and effort.

“We are excited by Pythian’s support for this new Oracle offering,” says Lydia Smyers, Group Vice President, Worldwide A&C Programs and Communications. “They have a strong record of working with Oracle engineered systems such as Oracle Exadata, and they have Oracle PartnerNetwork Specializations in all the relevant technologies: Oracle Database 11g, Oracle Real Application Clusters, Oracle Enterprise Linux and Oracle Database Performance Tuning. We believe strongly in the value the Oracle Database Appliance delivers to customers, and we’re pleased to have Pythian as one of its champions.”

Key to Pythian’s EasyMigrate offering is the EasyMigrate Estimator, an industry-first online tool based on years of experience working with Oracle technologies. It provides customers an instant quote and migration plan according to their unique specifications, and can accommodate any number of databases and any variety of source platforms, versions and features.

“EasyMigrate reinvents the database upgrade experience,” says Alex Gorbachev, Oracle ACE Director and Pythian CTO. “It shifts the risk of database migration from the customer to Pythian—where it belongs. No matter how simple or complex your database infrastructure, EasyMigrate makes the migration process fast and painless because it spells everything out: what it will cost and how it will get done.”

In addition to Oracle Database Appliance, EasyMigrate can also be used to calculate the cost of migrating to other platforms including Oracle Exadata Database Machine.

To help customers take full advantage of the Oracle Database Appliance, Pythian also offers managed services, capitalizing on the new standard integrated platform and automation that come with the Oracle Appliance Manager. Through the Oracle Database Appliance Beta Program, Pythian concluded supporting the platform can be much more cost efficient than supporting traditional platforms built using a wide set of technologies from various vendors, requiring the services of multiple operational teams.

The combination of the Oracle Database Appliance with Pythian migration and support services represents a complete turnkey database solution that allows customers to take full advantage of Oracle engineered systems and Pythian’s unmatched service quality at a low and predictable price.

The cost to migrate to Oracle Database Appliance with Pythian can be as low as $5,670, with Pythian support beginning at $1,600 per month.
