Your Child Could Be An App Star

First there were radio stars, then TV stars, now…. there are app stars! Australia’s Treasure Bound Books, creator of the interactive book app, “Treasure Kai and the Lost Gold of Shark Island,” is launching a treasure hunt of its own for three treasure kai promochildren aged 4-12 to feature as cartoons in the Treasure Kai app. The “Treasure Kai” book app was recently named a “Best of the Best, Top 25 Essential Children’s Book App” by Digital Storytime.

As part of the “Be an App Star” contest, award-winning illustrator of Treasure Kai, Vic Guiza, will draw the winners onto Main Street next to Kai’s treasure shop. To “audition” for the cameo roles, children from around the world are encouraged to illustrate their most creative treasure maps and place Kai somewhere on the map. Parents can submit their child’s creations to Treasure Bound Books via email or the web site. Submissions will be accepted throughout the month of September.

“As I’ve visited schools over the years, I’ve seen that kids are excited to share their ideas for stories and to get sneak peeks behind the scenes of creating a book app,” said author of Treasure Kai, Karen Robertson. “The ‘Be anTreasure Kai screen shot App Star’ contest is a great way to involve our readers in the creative process and to be inspired by their visions of a treasure hunt. We are co-creating with our readers, which is fitting because our readers co-create with the Treasure Kai app every time they interact with it.”

In October, Treasure Bound Books will choose 10 semi finalists from each age group of 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. A public online vote will determine which five semi-finalists will advance. A panel of guest judges will select one winner from each age group. Winners will be announced in mid November and appear in the app beginning in December.

The Panel of Guest Judges are:

  • Daphne Brogdon of CoolMom.com
  • Miss Lori – Children’s Television Host and Social Media Marketainer, MissLorisCAMPUS.com / MissLori.TV
  • Shannon des Roches Rosa – Blog Her and Thinking Parents Guide to Autism
  • Lorraine Akemann – co-founder of Moms with Apps
  • Rachael Bermingham – best selling co-author of the 4 Ingredients cookbooks & CEO of Bermingham Books Publishing

Throughout the duration of the contest, from September 1 – November 30, 2011, five cents from every purchase of the Treasure Kai book app will go to the Starlight Children’s Foundation Australia. Starlight brightens the lives of seriously ill and hospitalized children and their families throughout Australia by providing a range of programs aimed at supporting and improving resilience and well-being.
