Association News Briefs From Western Canada

British Columbia – Tonight’s ACM SIGGRAPH Vancouver Chapter AGM has been postponed to a later date. The AGM was slated to take place prior to this evening’s soldout event, Watchmen Revealed.

Just a reminder that the Canary Derby will be running on June 27 in Vancouver and June 28 in Victoria.  Canary DerbyVillage Gamer is supporting Brenda Bailey, who is participating on the Wired Woman team – and we challenge you to support a team too! We have all lost loved ones to cancer – please get involved in supporting early detection research.

New Media BCNew Media BC is presenting a case-study on the Canucks Fan Zone, a user-generated editorial and fan media web portal followed by a good old fashion networking mixer in partnership with the Anton Sledgehammer Creative Agency. The seminar will take place on June 25, with a registration fee of $35.00 ($25.00 for NMBC members).WINBC

The joint Annual General Meetings of WINBC and Wavefront will take place on June 22 at Nokia’s offices at 9200 Glenylon Parkway, in Burnaby. They are combining the AGMs with the end of season MoMoVan party. The event will run from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm, and the AGMs will be held at 6:15 pm.

VictoriaVIATeC has two activities planned for July.  First on the schedule is a seminar to aid VIATeCbusinesses who need to work around fluctuations in the US dollar, and this July 7 seminar will help businesses to develop hedging strategies to protect technology businesses. This is followed by VIATeC’s July VIAFest event, which is an open house event at Contech. Come out for a tour their facility and view Contech’s unique designs as a provider of advanced animal training and control technologies for pets, their owners and gardeners worldwide.

AlbertaDigitdigital albertaal Alberta is reporting a very successful Association BBQ, which took place last week and saw 80 attendees, who were given tours of SMART Technologies. The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation was on hand to provide information abouBPAAt the diseases as well as to accept a donation from Digital Alberta. There are also a couple of upcoming events being held in conjunction with the Alberta Book Publishers Association. First are the Google Settlement informational luncheons. The first will be held on July 6 in Edmonton with the second being held on July 14 in Calgary.

Digital Alberta and the Book Publishers Association of Alberta are also teaming up to present a seminar about Viral Marketing. The seminar will take place on June 23 in Edmonton and will cover such areas as:

• Integrate social media into your organization.
• Use social networking to connect with your organization and audience.
• Leverage online social networks like Facebook, GoodReads, Twitter, and YouTube.
• Create and develop good content for online audio and video media.
• Create content and an audience for your Podcasts.
• Understand how to measure your success when using online social networks and viral marketing.

Digital Alberta is partnering with the Calgary Marketing Association for their annual golf tournament on June 24 at the Silvertip Golf Resort in Canmore. The tournament is a fundraising event in support of Ronald McDonald House, Scott Smed Memorial Foundation and NABS.

Also in Alberta, artsScene will be holding their Calgary launch party on June 25. artsScene is a non-profit initiative that brings together young business and creative professionals (ages 18-40) through the arts, culture and creative industries. We invite you to our inaugural social event on the evening of June 25, where we’ll celebrate the best visual and aural arts Calgary has to offer. artsScene is a program initiative made possible by Business for the Arts, a national non-profit organization dedicated to fostering and promoting business leadership in the arts, facilitating funding relationships and connecting business volunteers to the arts. artsScene has been established in Toronto, Halifax, Montreal and now Calgary and Edmonton.
