Dare To Be Digital Competition Begins Today

Dundee – Over 70 students from as far away as China began their 10 week computer game design challenge at the University of Abertay Dundee today. However, there seems to be a problem with the competition’s web site. I tried to visit the URL as provided in the competition’s press release, and landedDare To Be Digital Competitors on a holding page. Hopefully this issue will be corrected pronto.

The computer arts students and graduates from Canada, China, India, England, Northern Ireland, Norway, Scotland, Southern Ireland, and Wales are finalists in Abertay’s ‘Dare to be Digital’ computer game design competition. Sunny Atwal, Eric Stock, Pedro Melendez, and Chris Iaconis from Algoma University will be competing for Canada.

Dare to be Digital’, now in its tenth year, sees fourteen five-strong teams competing against each other to design a prototype game or other interactive digital entertainment. The teams beat off fierce competition and survived industry scrutiny during the regional finals, to secure their place in the grand final.

Applications Now Available for 2010 Canada’s Top 100 Employers Competition

Canada's Top 100TorontoApplications are now available for the 2010 Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. Now in its 10th year, the annual competition recognizes the companies and organizations across Canada that lead their industries in providing exceptional places to work.

The competition is open to all employers – large or small, public-sector or private – that offer innovative programs to attract and keep talented employees. Employers are compared to others in their industry and this year’s winners will be announced in a special issue of Maclean’s magazine on October 6, 2009. The competition is managed by Mediacorp Canada Inc., which publishes detailed reasons for each employer’s selection on its popular job search engine Eluta.ca. Publishing detailed Reasons for Selection is a distinguishing feature of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project, providing transparency in the selection of winners and guidance to other employers on how they can become better places to work.

30th Annual Banff World Television Festival Award Winners Announced

Banff World Television FestivalBanff – Winners of the Banff World Television Awards (“The Rockies”), presented by Canwest, were announced tonight at the 30th edition of the Banff World Television Festival, taking place at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel until June 10, 2009.

“Featuring the prestigious Banff World Television Awards program competition on the first night of BANFF is a great way to kick off the Festival. All of the nominees this year represent outstanding television production and I wish to extend heartfelt congratulations to the winners of this year’s ‘Rockies,’” says Peter Vamos, BANFF Executive Director.

The 2009 ‘Rockies’ were redesigned and restructured by Georges Leclere, Director of the Program Competition. For the first time, there are two Banff World Television Awards ceremonies – the category awards announced tonight while the Grand Prize winners will be announced during the second ceremony on Monday June 8th.
