nextmediaBanff – As nextMEDIA Banff wrapped its final day, Innovation Week was unveiled to an international delegation of digital media creators and social media mavens. Innovation Week is a ground-breaking event that merges nextMEDIA, the Canadian New Media Awards and Canadian Innovation Exchange (CIX). Created to integrate the communities from Canada’s technology and digital media industries, key technology and media companies, entrepreneurs and investors, Innovation Week will take place November 30 to December 2, 2009 at the Design Exchange in Toronto.

“Canada is currently facing a critical challenge in transforming its economy in a time of global economic uncertainty and constrained investment. Innovation Week is both a rallying point and a platform to enable the individuals, companies and communities central to the innovation economy to come together and advance their respective agendas,” comments Robert Montgomery, CEO of Achilles Media who is also an investor and Co-Chair of CIX. “The three events which have combined in Innovation Week are only the beginning, as we reach out to include all the key communities in the coming weeks leading up to the big event.”

Innovation Week is an exciting new development designed to galvanize the key present and future players in Canada’s Innovation economy to meet, do business and inspire the next generation of innovative companies to achieve global success. It brings together the world’s leading thinkers and doers, designed to make a major statement to the world that Canada is a force to be reckoned with. Amid this backdrop, Innovation Week is about creating opportunity and lasting value for Canadian ideas and companies by facilitating the inspiration and relationships necessary to flourish in a competitive global market for fresh thinking and technologies. The focus areas for Innovation Week are information technology, digital media and clean technologies.

“As we move forward into the 21st Century innovation in terms of deployment of technology, business models and organizational development is required. Innovation Week will assemble key national players who are leading Canada into the 21st Century and will also attract key international players looking to both invest and partner with Canadian organizations,” says Mark Greenspan VP Digital Media Achilles Media Ltd.

The three events are all critical to their respective communities they serve: the Canadian Innovation Exchange (CIX) facilitates transactions and inspiration by bringing together investors, entrepreneurs and companies focused on cleantech, IT and digital media. CIX culminates in the selection of Canada’s Top 20 Innovative Companies.
