LiveCast And Yota Network Announce First Ever Live Video Streaming From A WIMAX Phone

Live from Intel’s Booth at Mobile World Congress, LiveCast Brings International Scenes to WiMAX Video Wall

livecastVancouver/Barcelona – Live video from mobile devices pioneer, LiveCast®, today announced support for the world’s first WiMAX phone, in partnership with Yota, the Russian operator developing and providing mobile services based on 4G Mobile WiMAX broadband technology.

LiveCast helps illustrate the power and speed of WiMAX for operators as well as end-users – currently supporting a variety of WiMAX enabled netbooks, PCs and mobile internet devices (MIDs). LiveCast has enabled hardware-level DSP assisted video encoding for the HTC MAX 4G mobile phone, furthering the company’s already extensive range of in-market supported WiMAX devices. LiveCast also takes full advantage of mobile devices’ built-in GPS capability by integrating location data for real-time tracking on a map, including automated notifications and social network sharing for Yota Network customers.

“We congratulate industry leaders Yota and HTC for delivering on the promise of WiMAX by offering the world’s first WiMAX phone,” said William Mutual, LiveCast CEO. “The prestigious Mobile World Congress is the perfect place to make this announcement and to showcase how far the WiMAX ecosystem has progressed during the last several months.”

“LiveCast’s live video streaming is a very innovative solution for HTC MAX 4G and the Yota Network,” said Natalya Tsarevskaya-Dyakina, Yota PR Director. “It was an extremely interesting experience to create this solution together and demonstrate it at Mobile World Congress. It’s a great example of how working closely together can provide our customers the most innovative WiMAX applications – offerings that take full advantage of the unique capabilities of our WiMAX network.”

The LiveCast System & Intel Demo
LiveCast was invited by Intel to join them behind-the-scenes in order to ensure that live video – an application extremely well-suited for WiMAX Technology’s high bandwidth uplink capability and continuous coverage – could be demonstrated by global WiMAX operators.

The LiveCast WiMAX demonstration includes participation by over 16 WiMAX operators located in major cities around the world – with LiveCast-ready mobile phones, netbooks, PCs, MIDs and security cams. Whether from public trains, vehicles or building tops – transmissions are high-quality real-time video of the city streets, pedestrian traffic, and local landscapes. Each of the live video streams includes integrated GPS coordinates to allow real-time tracking of locations on a global map.

Individual operator pages are integrated into a large “video wall” made up of nine monitors in the Intel booth at the Mobile World Congress show floor (Hall 8, Stand 4). The WiMAX demonstration portal can be viewed by the public at http://wimax.livecast.com. WiMAX operators livecasting to Mobile World Congress include: Aria (Italy), Clearwire (USA), DBD (Germany), Digicel (Jamaica), Global Data Services (Lebanon), ITRI (Taiwan), Libya Telecom & Technology (Libya), Max Telecom (Bulgaria), Mobilink (Pakistan), Nuevatel (Bolivia), OneMax (Dominican Republic), Packet One (Malaysia), Worldmax (Netherlands), Wipet (Panama) and Xanadoo (USA).

In other Mobile World Congress news, as a previous grand-prize winner of the NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge winner, LiveCast was selected to power the live webcast of this year’s contest winners’ ceremony at Mobile World Congress at lbschallenge.com.
